About Our Site

StartSewing was formed to offer a unique reference point on sewing know how.

There are all sorts of reasons for wanting to learn to sew. You might want to make your own clothes, create attractive furnishings for your home, or simply patch up and repair old items to give them new life. We thought it would be useful to have a central place with everything you need to know about basic sewing skills and to help you move on to more advanced sewing - that’s why we created Start Sewing.

Here at Start Sewing, our aim is to help you master the basics and move on to a range of exciting projects. We can provide you with adaptable skills that let you choose your own direction and develop your own ideas.

We aim to cover all the little things that most sites ignore, from choosing fabric to resizing patterns. We understand that beginners often find things difficult and we don't take your skills for granted. In case you don't find what you need, our Ask Our Experts section is there to provide help.

Start Sewing provides an easy, straightforward route to acquiring this useful and pleasing skill. We've had a lot of fun creating the site and we hope you'll have just as much fun using it. Happy sewing!

Our concern was that there was no single UK resource for interesting features and practical advice on this subject.

Our features and articles are written by experts - who have experience, or a particular interest in this area.

Our Background

StartSewing was founded by John Rowlinson, the founder of PtS.

John, through PtS, is involved in a number of ventures including software and property companies. A percentage of revenue from these activities goes towards funding StartSewing and a number of similar sites.

Our focus is simply on having experts create the highest quality information possible that is widely read.
